I believe an introduction is in order. I’m Kat, the current editorial intern at St. Lynn’s Press. This fall, I’ll be starting my senior year at Saint Vincent College. My time here at St. Lynn’s is my first dip into the vast ocean of the publishing world.
From the beginning, I knew that this internship would require me to hit the ground running, but I never guessed how quickly I would have to run. I have a month of crazy, learn-as-I-go experience under my belt, and I’m excited to see what else I’ll learn this summer.
During my five weeks here, we took two group trips, and we have more coming. Three weeks ago, we visited the Pittsburgh Botanic Garden. It was beautiful, calming space, and a nice escape from the sound of car traffic and trains.
Two weeks ago, we attended the Three Rivers Arts Festival. We looked around, did a little shopping, and supported some local artists.
I had never gone to the festival before so I was excited to see so many different types of art, jewelry, and food packed together for us to enjoy.
We listened to some live music while we perused the booths. The Boilermaker Jazz Band performed from 5-6 on the acoustic stage, and later, we heard a band warming up on the main stage. Unfortunately, they did not play a full song while we were around.
It was a hot day for walking in a crowd; after visiting a majority of the booths, we headed over to The Point to cool off by the fountain.
Believe it or not, as fun as both of these places were, the best location for enjoying the outdoors still manages to be the office. There are always people walking, running, and biking on the path out back and we have a gorgeous view of the Monongahela. Nothing beats sitting on the balcony, eating lunch, and watching the clouds roll by.
So far, my experience here has been excellent. Here’s to another two months of cultivating the mind and spirit!
