ST. LYNN’S PRESS RECEIVES GOLD AND TWO SILVER AWARDS OF ACHIEVEMENT FOR TWO TITLES

Pittsburgh, PA (August 18, 2014) — St. Lynn’s Press received the Gold Award for Best Overall Book at the Garden Writers Association Media Awards Ceremony for their title Fine Foliage by Karen Chapman and Christina Salwitz. St Lynn’s was also awarded two Garden Writers Association Silver Awards of Achievement under the Publisher— Overall Book category, for Fine Foliage and Slow Flowers by Debra Prinzing.

The GWA Media Awards recognize individuals and companies who achieve the highest levels of talent and professionalism in garden communities. Each year, Silver Award winners are announced a few months in advance of the annual GWA Symposium. Gold Award winners are announced at the ceremony. This year, the GWA Symposium was hosted in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

“The Garden Writers Association Media Awards showcase the writers, photographers, editors, publishers and trade companies that have pursued excellence in gardening communication in print or electronic communications,” says Larry Hodgson, president of GWA. “The Media Award winners have been judged by industry experts and show significant distinction and merits that exemplify exceptional work.”

St. Lynn’s Press was founded in 2004 in Pittsburgh by long-time book publishing executive Paul Kelly. With more than 50 titles in print, this small, independent press specializes in publishing books on organic gardening and other eco-green subjects. St. Lynn’s Press uses recycled papers and environment-friendly inks in the printing of their books.

In their book, Fine Foliage: Elegant Plant Combinations for Garden and Container garden designers Karen Chapman and Christina Salwitz create that perfect marriage of foliage colors, textures and shapes for year-round enjoyment with more than 60 inspired plant partnerships. This richly illustrated guide allows gardeners of all skill levels to bring elegant, expert design and style to their gardens and patios.

Slow Flowers: Four Seasons of Locally Grown Bouquets from the Garden, Meadow and Farm follows author Debra Prinzing through 52 consecutive weeks during which she challenged herself to pick, arrange and photograph a seasonal bouquet using only local ingredients. Similar to an easy-to-use cookbook, Slow Flowers features vivid images of each finished bouquet, an ingredient list and step-by-step design instructions. Special “takeaway tips” share expert flower growing advice and eco-design techniques.

GWA is an international organization of more than 1,400 professional communicators in the lawn and garden industry.

“GWA members are the essential bridge between the lawn and garden industry and the gardening public,” says the group’s Executive Director Robert LaGasse. “No other group has as much direct contact with the gardening consumer as GWA.”

According to the National Gardening Association, the lawn and garden industry is estimated to generate more than $60 billion in retail sales annually.
